Love is not merely a commandment. Above all, it is a need, the need of a person to be the image and likeness of God, the need to live as a human being expressing the divine that exists in humanness.
Love is a need because we must live in accordance with the truth and unity, which are in God, or else humanity will destroy itself. Love is the means to preserve the integrity of humanity forever.
There are two requirements to love:
1. We must eradicate all forms of harming one another. Our world must strive at meeting this minimum requirement. For it is evident that nowadays, in our world, men destroy one another in so many ways – as individuals and as nations.
2. We must promote equality and unity among all, even at the cost of one’s own life. For this is what the Son of God did in order to demonstrate his love for us.
