(Feast of Christ the King)
Sunday, November 20, 2016.

The only true power is the one you use to save others, not to save yourself. True power comes to you from God. This power enables you to reject the selfish power of saving yourself and to do everything for the benefit of all. God makes himself visible through those who seek to save others.
The opposite of the power of God is the power of the world.
The power of the world teaches and encourages you to save yourself at the expense of others. Men use the power of the world to transform unity into division, to transform equality into inequality, and peace into war.
Those who hold the power of the world believe the only “true” power is that which is founded on the very selfish interests they promote. For them, there is no other authority than that which seeks selfish interests. For them, the only acceptable ruler is the one who is concerned with saving himself.
Those who were moved by worldly power tried to make Jesus Christ relinquish his power to save others, and relinquish the reason he had come to the world.
– The rulers said: “He saved others, let him save himself” (Luke 23:35).
– The soldiers called out: “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself” (Luke 23:36).
– And even one of the criminals next to Jesus said: “Are you not the Messiah? Save yourself and us” (Luke 23:39).
But, the one who has the power of God refuses to surrender. He refuses to compromise with those who use their power to save themselves.
God gives us his power so we may use it as he uses it.
